A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME

p1060837If you have stumbled upon my site, hello and welcome :)! The photo to the right was NOT intended for this website, me and my friend have a thing about taking pictures of our teeth, yep… weird. So I’m just a twenty-something year old girl who embarked on a new journey, my dental journey! I started treatment on the 26th January 2015. I decided to set this website up as a way of simultaneously documenting my journey and  helping other people with my own experiences and knowledge; therefore I hope to do some good with this blog. I want for this website to truly be a good source of information and I’ll do the best I can to provide that. Furthermore I want to record every step of my journey, just like a journal to record this amazing chapter of my life because after all this is a life changing experience. I currently have my own website on here and on Tumblr which contain more discussion posts, my own scrapbook, an Instagram account with regular posts – in other words, yes it’s a lot of work but I am having fun with this whilst helping myself and more importantly others going through their dental journey. I have dedicated a whole page as to why I decided to have surgery but in a few words, my reasons are both medical and aesthetic which makes me both apprehensive and excited. I know that this is definitely worth the wait although challenging, my aim is to be healthy and happy by the end of this. Check out ‘Why Jaw Surgery’ for more on this.

My Treatment Plan (with the Welsh NHS)

  • Wisdom Tooth Removal Surgery (usually done to create room in the mouth, but I’ve had my  bottom two extracted already in August 2014 due to wisdom teeth pain and reocuring infections)
  • Orthodontic Treatment – I had my braces fitted on the 26th January, 2015
  • Double Jaw Surgery – maxillary advancement, mandibular set back, rotation of the lower jaw, movement of the chin and jaw bone graft for Class III malocclusion underbite, cross-bite, lower jaw asymmetry and TMJD (to name a few) on 14th October, 2016.
  • Post surgery – I had tight elastic bands fitted, further orthodontic work to further correct my dental bite. I had my braces on for 10 months post surgery, and I am now wearing retainers, full-time.

A little more about me and my interests, my weird and wonderful obsessions and interests: Dance, photography, keeping fit, mindfulness, tea, foodie, baking, cooking, my mug collection, movies, sunsets, music, writing, and my amazing family and friends… OK enough about me!

However, something interesting about me that also relates to this site!: When I go anywhere that involves giving someone my name for example, at Starbucks I’ll tell them my name to write on the cup, which is Nisha. However I’m hugely convinced that because of my awful bite which makes my pronunciation slightly awkward. The staff always (most of the time) seem to hear ‘Alica’ or ‘Lisha’ so I have started my own Starbucks Journal on instagram with all my Alicia/Lisha cups 😉

Anyways! Thank you if you have come across this website and taken the time to read this. I truly hope my page is useful even if just for one person! Thanks. 🙂
